We’d like to share some insights into the sheet metal manufacturing industry with you. And, at the same time, introduce some of the people behind the scenes making it all happen. Hence, for those of you who have not yet had the opportunity, in this brief Q&A session you can learn about Andy Tuck, Sales Manager at Unifabs; from the most bizarre food he has ever tried, to what he wants to fix about the manufacturing industry.

Andy joined Unifabs in 2017 as Business Development Manager. Currently having 27 years’ experience in the manufacturing and engineering industry in various roles, from procurement to sales and estimation, he’s experienced a lot. His addition to the team was key in the company’s growth ambitions as it marked the establishment of a dedicated sales team.

Q & A

In terms of your job, what gets you out of bed in the morning?

People – Firstly, I have a great set of colleagues who all club together where needed and take pride in doing the best job they can. Secondly, and it certainly makes my life easier, I have a fantastic customer base. Everyone we work with is lovely! Our customers treat us with respect and value the partnership both parties work hard at creating.

What does ‘Design, Manufacture, Finish, Deliver’ mean to you?

It encompasses the whole process – from assisting with initial conceptual designs all the way through the manufacturing process (from raw sheet steel to fully finished/assembled products) and delivering, as promised.

What do clients say they like about partnering with Unifabs?

Definitely the Sales Manager 😂 In all seriousness, it seems to be different client to client. Some really value our ability to support them with and improve an existing product, some our technical expertise, while others value our honesty, communication and service levels above all else.

What is something you have to deal with in your job/industry that you want to fix?

From my own experiences and from customer feedback about the industry as a whole, I feel customer service in the manufacturing industry is one of the main areas that needs improvement. Companies are quick to rely on the best equipment in the marketplace but, if promises are not kept or potential issues communicated, it’s all a waste. Communication and service are both massive focuses for us at Unifabs and our aim is to stay close to and work with our customers at every stage of the process.

Just for fun…

Can you play any instruments?

I played the piano for years when I was younger, to a pretty decent level. The sad thing is, I can barely read music anymore. I also fancied myself as a bit of a guitar hero and still play now, albeit not very well.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?

I’m not ashamed to say I’m a huge fan of Star Wars. I try to pass off my figure collection as my kids. In reality, they’re locked in a glass cabinet, away from small, sticky fingers!

What is the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

I was tricked into eating ram’s testicles in Israel and, in all honesty, they’re as unpleasant as you’d imagine! Powdery…
